About Us

We are concerned about the quality of life.

This web site was developed by a group of concerned citizens committed to providing information about the developer's proposed project and its likely impacts to the community. Our group consists of citizens who believe that future development should be consistent with Carmel Valley's community character and within the traffic and infrastructure capacity set forth in the current community plan. Our group is not seeking to eliminate or reduce existing entitlements for the property. We are working to ensure the density, traffic and parking envisioned in the community plan are adhered to.

But hasn't Kilroy reduced the project?

Yes, the project has been somewhat reduced, but it's still full of massive residential blocks and 8 story office buildings -- a scale that doesn't match the surrounding community. And the traffic counts have only been reduced by around 10 percent, still leaving some 23,000 new cars on the road. Think about that: Kilroy claims to have reduced the project by 30% and it's still out-of-scale with the local community. How big was this project originally?!!

We're NOT Against Development

We are a diverse bunch, but most of us want a mixed-use project to be built at the One Paseo site. We just want it to be appropriate to Carmel Valley. We want a Trader Joes. We want more restaurants. We want a town center, with a beautiful plaza. But, how about making a smaller project, a suburban village like downtown La Jolla? There are great examples of villages in San Diego, let's make one just for us!

This Web Site

We created this web site to provide community members the opportunity to share their thoughts and concerns about the project to decision-making officials and advisory boards. With the information found here, the Carmel Valley community, its residents, businesses and visitors will better understand the price they may have to pay for a project 10 times the density of Del Mar Highlands Town Center and larger than the size of the University Town Center in the middle of our well-planned community.

Website conceived and content created by Carmel Valley residents. Ken Farinsky (the "ken" in all the articles), a Carmel Valley resident, runs the web site and makes most postings. Ken can be reached at ken@cvsd.com.

Are We Run by Local Businesses?

We're an independent group of community members, so why would Killroy be trying to associated us with some local business? I suppose they want to make us look like we're being run by some big corporation. Kilroy is likely doing this because they've hired a company called Davies Public Affairs to do their marketing and community outreach, and Davies has been associated with "fake grassroots community support" (see this OpEd piece by Molly Ivins and this San Diego Reader piece by Dorian Hargrove.)

What are the facts? We don't have the multi-million dollar budget that Kilroy has, so, in the past, we've asked around the community for help. There's a difference between us soliciting funds from local businesses to support our efforts and their hiring outside companies to influence local residents. Yes, the Town Center has paid for some printing and mailing of cards, and once-upon-a-time they helped with our website (before I took it over --ken.), but they have never set our message. Everything you hear from us comes from local community members.

Our Supporters

I apologize for not getting everyone's names posted, but I've been busy with the DEIR. I hope to get to this soon!
