So, Kilroy is reducing the One Paseo project by 30 percent? We could quibble with the numbers as the original proposal was for 1.85M square feet, not the 2M now cited. But we really need to keep in mind that the important baseline number is neither 1.85M nor 2M but 510,000. That’s the current entitlement for any developer wanting to build on the site in question.. As a member of the Del Mar area community of San Diego, I was disappointed to see the modest revision for the One Paseo project (slated for the Carmel Valley area just off the Del Mar Heights exit of I-5). It’s not enough. The project should be scaled back to confirm with the community plan — not given a special exemption by the city for a 3X or 4X size increase. Read more...

A recent letter stated that our rejection of One Paseo is like Marin County’s rejection of a Lucas Films Production company. Well, it’s not.
Certainly Carmel Valley would welcome a Google or Microsoft business here – and indeed I would welcome a Lucas Films production company. Those kinds of companies would yield high paying professional jobs where employees would be able to afford our Carmel Valley homes and, indeed, embrace our CV culture and lifestyle, and live here. The Carmel Valley community is being asked to endorse a plan that is too dense for the neighborhood because the developer bought the land at the top of the market and needs to capture the economic return that they projected when they purchased the land thus the density increase request.
