Both professional graphic designers and amateurs deal with the design of labels. Learn the features of a good label and check what traditional and modern personalization is all about.

How do professional graphic designers design labels?
Designing is a creative work that requires a lot of concentration and a lot of creative thinking resources. There is really no one proven way to design personalized labels. Each order of this type is unique and requires the use of different methods and effects. Some designers first make a few, a dozen or even several dozen quick sketches, from which the initial concept of the label emerges. Another method of designing labels is preceded by a tedious preparation period. The graphic designer analyzes the client’s needs in detail and does almost scientific research on the appearance of the label. Thanks to this, it prepares the final version of the pattern faster. The third way of working is to combine several or a dozen or so patterns of different labels into one.

What all of the creative processes discussed above have in common is the need to rely on intuition. Regardless of which method we use, we will not predict whether a given pattern will be adopted on the market. Designers, although they have their own developed methods of work and favorite means of artistic expression, are rarely 100% sure that the fruit of their work will be approved by both the client and the consumer.

What are the characteristics of a good label?
A good label stands out from other designs, but at the same time is not too flashy. It should attract attention and encourage consumers to reach for the product on which it is located. An important feature of a good label is the high quality of the paper used to print it. It should also have a nice texture and give the impression that we are even dealing with a premium product. However, as for the requirements for labels, they often depend on the industry. For example, producers of processed meat will pay attention to whether it is durable and resistant to moisture; Tire manufacturers will check that it has sufficiently strong adhesive and does not detach from rough surfaces. Cosmetic manufacturers, on the other hand, will be looking for eye-catching labels.

Learn about modern methods of label personalization
An important trend, among others personalization is involved in the production of labels, thanks to which the stickers are adapted to a specific group of recipients. Traditional treatments include: printing of short slogans, names, but more and more often manufacturers decide, for example, to put a QR code that refers to their websites. After scanning it, the consumer may be able to play a simple computer game, learn about a product or company curiosity, etc.
